Abortion is murder of an innocent human being. Being a human, babies have the same right to life, and should still be protected. Fetuses are able to feel pain within 12 weeks, therefore causing pain on a human who cannot fend for themselves. Some believe that as soon as a baby is born is when it is technically a human, but "it is a trivial event in development. Nothing neurologically interesting happens." (¶3 “Fetal Psychology” Janet L Hopson), which means that although birth may be an exciting instance, it’s not when the fetus is truly a human. As soon as the embryo starts to form into something other than an egg, that’s when it starts to become a human, not when it’s born.
Along with that, abortion can, in fact, cause psychological damage. It was found that found that women who aborted were 154% more likely to commit suicide than women who carried to term. In a study on men whose spouse had abortions found that 51.6% of the men stated regret, 45.2% felt sadness, and 25.8% experienced depression (Journal of Social and Clinical.) According to the “Deaths associated with pregnancy outcome: a record linkage study of low income women” article, women who compared with women who delivered, those who aborted had a significantly higher risk of death from all causes, from suicide, and from accidents (¶4). As a result of abortion, women feel guilt and regret and they cannot take the pressure, so they end it through suicide. CON 2
Women who have abortions are more likely to develop breast cancer than women who don’t. In early pregnancy, levels of estrogen increase, in preparation for a woman to milk her child. When this process is cut short by abortion, undeveloped cells are left in the woman's breasts, resulting in a higher risk of developing breast cancer. (Reproductive History and Breast Cancer Risk ¶1) According to the article “Reproductive History and Breast Cancer Risk” a woman may miscarry during the first trimester, which does not increase breast cancer risk, since they are associated with low estrogen levels that do not cause breast growth, but this is not the same for abortions because the risk can increase after the 1st trimester, which is when most abortions occur. (¶2 and 3)
Furthermore, if abortion was not an option, women would not be so careless (“Abortion Surveillance” ¶1). If the idea of abortion was never developed, women wouldn’t be so quick to do anything. All women would have no other option but to carry their baby to full term, instead of aborting it. They would be more careful with what they did and there would be less of a risk of pregnancy in the first place. With most women, since they know that abortion is in fact, an option, then they are more careless than if abortion did not exist.
