Lesson VOC 20
Task: Stack boxes.
Prerequisites: S. 12, SEN 15, VOC 5, VOC 14, VOC 15
Concept: The concept of this lesson is to take the skills learned in the prerequisite task of stacking blocks (SEN 15) and put that ability to a practical use. The lifting learned in the prerequisite tasks of loading and unloading a truck (VOC 14 and VOC 15) are extremely important. Although some stacking behavior is also learned in VOC 14 or VOC 15, this lesson seeks to expand those skills so that they are similar to the ones used in a warehouse. Heavy equipment use is not addressed in this lesson and may need to be added, depending on the specific work situation and the student, abilities.
Behavioral objective: When the student is requested to stack at least 10 boxes, as indicated by a "supervisor," he or she will place those boxes, arranged neatly, in an identified location to a 9096 accuracy level for 20 trials.
Materials: Boxes containing materials that weigh no more than 15 pounds. This weight may need to be lowered, depending on the student, abilities.
Task Analysis:
1. Review each of the listed prerequisite skills to ensure that the student has the basic concept of each task.
2. A person who will represent the role of a "supervisor" (which can be the in-structor) should physically guide the student through the process of lifting a single box and carrying unto an identified storage area. At this point, neat arrangement and safe stacking practices should be taught.
3. Continue Step 2, reducing all physical assistance until only step-by-step verbal requests are needed.
4. Continue Step 3, modifying the step-by-step verbal requcsts to a total-task verbal request.
5. Continue Step 4, increasing the number of boxes to be carried, 1 at a time, to 10. Continue until the objective is met.
