Secondary appraisal. Patients were asked whether
they thought they could do something with the stressful
event (Table III). The majority (60.9%) reported that
the stressful situation was “something that you had to
accept,” 21.7% thought that they “could change or do
something with the situation,” 4.3% “needed more
information,” and 1.1% chose the alternative “you held
yourself back from doing what you wanted to do.”
