Welding is a process of joining two or more pieces of like metals by heating the
material to a temperature high enough to cause softening or melting.
The location of the weld is where the materials actually combine the grain
structure from one piece to the other. The welded become one and the properly
welded joint is as strong or stronger than the original material.
Welding may be performed with or without pressure applied to the materials.
Some materials may actually be welded together by pressure alone. Most welding
operations, however, are performed by filling a heated joint between pieces with
molten metal
