was also observed. Mycoparasitism
is one of the mechanisms involved in phytopathogen
biocontrol and the present study indicated that the yeasts parasitize
C. gloeosporioides hyphae and cause physical damage, possibly due
to the production of hydrolyte enzymes that degrade the hyphae
cell walls, such as -1,3-glucanase. The yeast penetration of walls
with marked concavity formation on hypha cell walls is highlighted
by arrows in Fig. 5G and H.
The activity of -1,3-glucanase for W. anomalus (strain 422) and
M. guilliermondii (strain 443) was 1.18 and 0.78 nkat/mgP, respectively.
No chitinase activity was found for the two yeasts under the
conditions used in the assay
