Supply chain security management is regarded as crucial to sustaining competitive advantage (Thai, 2009). However, although many studies have focused on supply chain security (Voss et al., 2009; Yang, 2011), relatively few have empirically examined the effect of supply chain security management on security performance. Particularly, ocean carriers and terminal operators play important roles in the supply chain process (Closs and McGarrell, 2004). Thus, this study aims to examine the relationship between security management and security performance in the container shipping sector.
There are five sections in this paper. Section 1 introduces the motivation and purpose of the research. Section 2 reviews the literature on supply chain security management, container shipping supply chain security management, and security performance. Research hypotheses are also presented. Section 3 describes the research methodology, including data collection and measures, sampling technique, and methods of analysis. Section 4 presents the study results. The final section discusses the conclusions and implications of the findings.
