observed at
their additive amounts giving no cytotoxic effects. a-Tomatine at
5 lM had little cytotoxic effect on adipocyte cells (data not shown
here) and induced 16% reduction of lipid accumulation as shown in
Fig. 5. The extract of immature green tomatoes incubated with 4.5%
acetate for 1 week had no cytotoxic effect and induced 13% reduction
of lipid accumulation when the cytotoxic effect of the extract
was adjusted to that of 5 lM a-tomatine in culture medium
(Fig. 5). The above facts suggest that the inhibitory effect of
