Biomass can be used to generate electricity, thermal energy and
biofuels for transportation. However, its final use depends on the
characteristics of the raw material. Biomass reduces atmospheric
emissions so that the net cycle of CO2 does not contribute to the
greenhouse effect. Moreover, biomass is relevant to national economies
since it eliminates the need to import fossil fuels [35]. Biogas
energy generation systems are in demand and their number is
increasing steadily [50].
