Kodomo no Hi means Children’s Day and it is a national holiday in Japan.
It is a time when families rejoice in their children’s well being and fly carp streamers to symbolize the parents wish for their children to grow strong and healthy and like the carp, which swims upstream against the current, and overcome life’s difficulties.
The Kodomo no Hi Japan Festival is a unique festival that has become the largest volunteer community based Japan festival in Australia. It provides an opportunity for people to develop and maintain community links and enjoy the diversity that our society offers, in particular the people and culture of Japan.
South Australia has had links with Japan for over 100 years and last year celebrated the 20th anniversary of its sister-state relationship with Okayama Prefecture in Japan.
Entry is $2 per person or $5 per family.
