The lateral flow strip employs a mouse hybridoma
MAb specific to envelope protein gp116 of pathogenic
YHV. The labeled antibody is located on an absorbent pad
covered by the plastic strip and lying between the sample
well and the test line. When a sample extract containing
YHV is placed in the well, the liquid will flow laterally
along the chromatographic membrane towards the test
line and the virus will attach to the gold-labeled antibody.
When the virus-antibody complex reaches the test line, it
is trapped by a fixed line of polyclonal antibody to YHV
and accumulates there giving a red line. Excess,
unattached, gold-labeled MAb migrates to the control
line where it is trapped by a fixed anti-mouse antibody. A
negative result is obtained when no YHVis present in the
sample and all of the MAb is trapped at the anti-mouse
antibody control line. A similar test has been developed to
detect both YHV and GAV. Information about these test
strips can be found at www.shrimpbiotec.com.
