C. Antibacterial Assay
Antibacterial activity was determined using the agar disc
diffusion method described by Parekh [10]. Each bacterial
inoculum was incubated in 2.5ml Mueller-Hinton broth at
37°C for 18 hours. Every inoculum was spread over plates
containing Mueller-Hinton agar. Five millimeter discs
containing 500μg/ml and 1000μg/ml of extract were placed
on cultured pathogenic bacteria on agar plates and incubated
at 37°C. The plates were checked for bacterial growth after a
minimum of 16 hours and occasionally till 24 hours. The
diameter of the zone of inhibition was then measured.
Commercial disc of Chloramphenicol (30μg) was used as
positive control and experiment was done thrice for each
extract.
