A music therapist must be both a good musician and a good therapist. What does this mean?
Musically, the individual must have excellent functional musical skill (e.g., playing social instrument such as guitar, piano, etc.),
must have a broad knowledge of different styles of music such as popular music, classical music , jazz, religious, etc. and should be able to use music flexibly , creatively, and in an aesthetically satisfying manner. Being a talented musician, However, is not enough. Some excellent musicians lack the interpersonal qualities so essential to a good therapist.
