Ferroelectric glass-ceramicsoftheNa2O–BaO–Nb2O5–SiO2 system wereobtainedfromacontrolledcrystallizationprocessperformedonthe
parent glassofcomposition20Na2O–10BaO–30Nb2O5–40SiO2. Nd2O3 doping contentwasvariedintherange0,0.1and0.5mol%.Thermal
properties oftheas-quenchedsamplewerestudiedbyDTAtechniqueandtheresultsofDTAshowedapossiblecrystallizationpeakat740 1C
and thiswasselectedasthetreatmenttemperature.Theobtainedglass-ceramicswereinvestigatedintermsofcrystallinephaseformationbyXRD
technique, microstructurebySEMandopticalpropertyusingUV–visible spectroscopy.Fluorescencespectraoftheglass-ceramicswerealso
recorded atRT.TheresultsofXRDrevealedthatNaNbO3 and Ba2NaNb5O15 were thedominantcrystallinephases.Themicrostructuresofthe
glass-ceramics revealrandomlydistributionsofsmallcrystalliteswiththesizeintherange0.17–0.19 mm. AtlowNd3þ content, theglass-
ceramics weretransparentmaterial.Withayellowlightexcitationat580nm,theglass-ceramicshowspossibleemissionsintheultraviolet,blue
and greenlightregion.
