Supporting today's women with diabetes requires nurse and other care providers to understand the basics and the possibilities of CSII. As the number of people with preexisting diabeter increases and technology continues to improve. There is need for randomized controlled trials to determine best practices for women during pregnandy. labor and delivery, and the postpartum period,as well as for CSII use in the years following menopause.
Although CSII was designed for use in people with type I diabetes, the use of insulin pumps for managing type2 diabetes is receiving more attention. As patients with type2 diabetes fase declining beta cell function.most will require insulin therapy to provide glycemic control (Holmen et al. 2009). Recent studies have not found CSII to be clinically superior to insulin injection; however, overall preference for CSII was reported by study participant due to convenience, tlexbility and ease of use (Bode,2010). Research and develment of simpler insulin pumps and protocols for the popukation of patients with type2 diabeter is in progress.
