The bulkhead refers to row of seats where passengers’ leg room extends to the divider wall instead of seats direct in front. Bulkhead seats are normally assigned to passengers traveling with infants where the extra space allocated may be used to a hang a baby bassinet or to disabled passengers to avoid them having to walk a long distance from the aircraft door to their seat. The bulkhead divider is often used to divide business class and economy class.
The bulkhead is always located on the first row of each class. Other bulkheads may be located after the rest room divider or the galley (kitchen).
