The Christ the Redeemer statue was created by Carlos Oswaldo in 1921. The statue seen today, however, was actually created by an engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, and was sculpted by Paul Lanclowski in France. The construction started in 1926 and was finished in 1931.
Christ the Redeemer is 710 meters high and the reason it was built was to show Christ loves all! It is a symbol of great warmth, welcoming peace and openness.
It is made out reinforced concrete with a top coating of soap stone.
You should vote for Christ the Redeemer because of his sense of peace. Christ the Redeemer is one of the biggest statues ever made which commands lots of respect from the Brazilian people. It is a great sight on top of a giant mountain called the Corcavado mountain, overlooking the city of Rio de Janeiro.
