In 1922, Lert sold half of the parkland—some 31 rai (49,600 sqm)—to the British Government, on which it built an Ambassador’s Residence. Then in 2006, the British Embassy sold a large portion of the land to Tiang Chirathivat Real Estate, part of the Central Group, which went on to develop Bangkok’s most high-end retail mall Central Embassy on the site. Many of the uprooted trees were donated to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
