Despite completing traditional rehabilitation programs,
functional limitations persist in patients following TKA
compared to healthy age-matched individuals. Following
TKA, people have reduced walking speed, and report
difficulty climbing stairs and rising from a chair [12, 13].
They also perform more poorly on tests of Timed Up
and Go (TUG) and stair climbing times than healthy
adults [3, 13]. The persistence of functional limitations
demonstrates that there is a need to expand on the focus
of current rehabilitation practices to restore the function
of patients following TKA to the levels of healthy adults.
