Most people want members of the National Reform Council (NRC) to work with honesty and integrity, a public survey has found.
Some 81 per cent of people surveyed said the first thing they want from the council was for members to work with honesty and integrity, according to results released yesterday.
The survey was conducted by Suan Dusit Poll from Suan Dusit Rajabhat University on 1,454 people.
After 250 members were appointed to the NRC they will focus on 11 areas of reform and set up a selection panel for the Constitution Drafting Committee (CDC). So, the poll surveyed opinion on how to push national development forward.
The poll looked at four topics related to the work of the NRC - what people would requests from the council, most urgent fields of reform, the hardest and easiest areas of reform, and how people can help with national reforms.
It showed that 81 per cent of the people want the NRC to work with honesty and integrity, while 77 per cent suggested the council should promote reform plans according to people's ideas, and 74 per cent said the council must focus on benefits for the country.
The survey found 79 per cent of people said the NRC should primarily focus on political reform following by 78 per cent on education, 74 per cent on economic issues, 70 per cent on justice and legal system and 62 per cent on national administration.
Meanwhile, 73 per cent of people still think that political reform is the hardest area to reform, while 82.5 per cent said the easiest area of reform is the media, followed by the environment (75 per cent), energy (72 per cent), social and local administration (60 per cent).
But on the subject of how people can promote national reform, 80 per cent people agreed that they should respect the law, 79.5 per cent said they should cooperate with government agencies and 78 per cent said they should reserve their right to elect the decent people to be government officials, the poll found.
