The 12cm Zebra is the perfect size for one or two people. It makes two nice servings of chilly and will boil enough water to fill a Nag or Guyote bottle without much extra bulk.
I have seen people ask if the Zebra billy is worth the money. I think it depends on how important the bail lid and dish are to you. The home made billy cost me less than half the price of the Zebra. However the Zebra is heavier and more durable. The standoffs for the bail are a big plus for me. (note: This is not the bail that came with it.) The lid is a big plus for me. (note: The first thing I did was to remove the plastic clips that lock the lid on) I think a billy should have one and it would be the most difficult piece to improvise. The dish is no big deal to me but I will use it since I have it. I have baked some bannock in it and it did well. The next time I bake bannock I am going to put a few stones in the bottom of the billy. Then put my GSI Spacesaver mug with the bannock in it on the stones and put the dish on top full of coals. Hopefully it will make a good oven.
I have not used the homemade billy yet. It fits so well that I don't think it will fit anymore after I get it covered in soot. If not then I will just remove it. I liked the idea of having one to cook in and one for tea or another dish.
I am not completely happy with the bail on the Zebra billy. I really like the 1/16 stainless cable I made it from because it doesn't hold heat but I also can't take the lid off with weight on the bail. I may just replace it with a skewer like the other billy. Any and all suggestions are welcome.
