To examine the potential impact of adjacent vegetation,
sampling was undertaken at 61 sites in commercial vineyards in
South Australia: 21 in the Barossa Valley (34380S, 138530E), 30
at Wrattonbully (37380S, 140490E) and 10 at Padthaway
(36350S, 140520E). Padthaway and Wrattonbully are 300 and
400 km south east of Barossa, respectively. Woody vegetation in
the area surrounding the vineyards varied: at Wrattonbully there
was 22.3 ± 4.8% (mean across sites ±SE) vegetation in an area of radius
95 m surrounding the sites, while this value was higher at
Padthaway (32.9 ± 2.1) and Barossa (49.6 ± 4.3).
