When analyzing the concentration of total anthocyanins in grape stems, ‘Sousão’ cv. (1.57 mg g−1 dw) surpassed the content in ‘Touriga Nacional’, ‘Tinta Barroca’ and ‘Tinta Amarela’ by 53.5%, 48.5%, and 53.6%, on average, respectively (Fig. 2D). The evaluation of grape stems as a source of individual anthocyanins evidenced that ‘Sousão’ presented the highest content in malvidin-3-O-glucoside in comparison with malvidin-3-O-(6-O-caffeoyl)-glucoside/malvidin-3-O-rutinoside (coeluting anthocyanins), whereas the varieties ‘Touriga Nacional’, ‘Tinta Barroca’, and ‘Tinta Amarela’ showed a reverse relative proportion ( Fig. 2D).
