Following the major disasters, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) developed a project to improve the dam for its safety and flood damage mitigation (EGAT, 1987; Krajomkaew, 1990). The improvement project raised the height of the dam to be 3.1 m higher than the initial one. The increase in the dam height enlarged its maximum storage
capacity to be 4,640.4106 m3 or 186.6 m MSL
