Sequestration Capacity Assessment
• Generally used in the context of regional or national assessment of the maximum amount of CO2 that could be sequestered
– Evaluated in units of mass of CO2 (typically Mt or Gt)
– Does not consider economics
– Does not consider rate of sequestration
• Lots of confusion about definitions
– Risked Capacity (rules out higher risk sites)
– Dynamic Capacity (also considers rate of sequestration, which is limited by pressure buildup)
– Source Sink Matched Capacity (considers where CO2 sources are located today)
• Typically does refer to an assessment of how much CO2 could be sequestered at one specific site
