With so many sights to see in Rome, the only real way to get a complete picture of this city is to hit the ground running, or in this case, walking. Rome may not have been built in a day but with the perfect tour you can just about squeeze all the “greatest hits” of the Roman Empire into one memorable, informative and active full day tour.
Through a friend’s recommendation, I opted to try Through Eternity’s private Essence of Rome tour. Beginning at 8am my very knowledgeable guide, who was also completely fluent in the English language, whisked me away (on foot) as we proceeded to walk through the Forum, into the Colosseum and over to the Pantheon. With a break for lunch (pasta and wine, of course) we then proceeded to the Spanish Steps for some gelato and topped off the day with a visit to the Vatican and St. Peter Bascilia for a view of the Sistine Chapel. Even better, all their tours allow you to skip the long lines at the Vatican Museum, St. Peter’s Basilica, Colosseum and Roman Forum.
Throughout the day I learned more about the Roman Empire than I could have ever imagined would be possible in just one day. Through Eternity tours caters to the American market, using only guides who are fluent in the English language ensuring nothing gets lost in translation. From private, semi private and group tours, they’ll feed your head with fascinating facts while ensuring your stomach is filled with plenty of pasta and gelato.
