3.2. Embryo production
3.2.1. Superovulation
In total, 285 CL (average 25.9) were counted postmortem
on ovaries of 11 embryo donors. Also, most of the
donors from which embryos were collected nonsurgically
produced multiple CL, determined using palpation (data
not reported here). Out of a total of 302 (average 8.6)
oocytes/embryos collected nonsurgically and postmortem
from 35 animals, 173 (57%) were fertilized and 32 (18%)
resulted in blastocysts. Thirty-nine (23%) of morula and
blastocyst stage embryos were ET quality. The remaining
129 out of 302 (43%) oocytes and embryos were unfertilized
or degenerated.
In total, 17 out of 71 (24%) unwashed fertilized
and degenerated embryos were positive and 8 out of 77
(10%) remained BVDV-infectious after sequential washing
(P < 0.05).
