These collages by Šehanović are quite mesmerising. He uses different colours instead of using the same image over and over, which I think is far more effective than what I have been going for within my own imagery. I think the contrast between the black and white photographs works sublimely, just adding that hint of colour to make the 'holes' within the image stand out, and perhaps engage the viewer and make them ponder why the use of colour has been used. What I get from the images is that the different techniques he has used within the images he is representing different personality traits within the people in the main images.
The image on the far left is particularly because of fragmented way in which he has created the image. Not only is there many, many layers going on underneath the face, but the face itself is taken away from the rest of the head, and the eye taken even further out of it. This definitely creates a form of manic narration, and definitely under the theme of personalities, perhaps showcasing issues within this person's head, or thoughts that they have had.
I have had the idea of using catalogues (ones I can easily access like Argos ones). I think that this will had a whole new level onto the portraits that I am creating, and I think that it would also work well with the seeming theme with eyes. I think that the theme of human nature will work well with the stance on the project, in particular the theme of consumerism and how it affects society and what they think is beautiful and how wealth and materialism is a driving point within society. This is not yet a definite idea, just another experiment until I find the best way to utilise the theme of using sculpture within photography.
The image below is an example of the idea I have just described;
I do quite like the idea of now including colour within my imagery, But in this instance I don't think that it is powerful enough to make the image stand out at all. I have used the Argos catalogues like I previously said, but you cannot clearly see what they are, which is something that I should have clear to see.
I am also somewhat being put off my work because of the quality of the images deteriorating, but at this stage I think it's fine, as long as any retrospective final images are not in this state. I think a solution for this problem would to print out the image I place on top on a much better quality paper, so I would be able to re-photograph without any grain that normally come from normal print outs from a laser printer.
I think the idea of consumerism and the sense of being materialistic is something that I could think about in terms of my work. I have previously spoken about scizophrenia and the thought of making a comment on the state of human nature through my work, so I think that pin pointing some ideas will be the best way to go for myself in terms of rationalising my work in a coherent manner. I realise that it is a bit late to be thinking about this, as I have somewhat had my aesthetic down, or what I intended on creating for some time. It's not that I couldn't be bothered thinking about a rationale for my work, it's that I have not thought of anything that I think suits the work, so it will be my focus from this point on. In the next post I will be thinking about what exactly my rationale will be, in order for my to move on in a proper manner, without becoming confused too close to the hand-in date for this project, as then I feel it would be rather rushed and forced.
