This study conceptualized residential satisfaction as influenced
by objective and subjective measures of housing attributes and the
demographic characteristics of the students as shown in Fig. 1.
These are referred to as objective and subjective variables. Residential
satisfaction was construed as the dependent variable while the
objective and subjective variables as well as the demographic
characteristics were the independent variables. It hypothesized
that the objective variables would influence satisfaction directly
and indirectly through the subjective variables. The dependent
variable, satisfaction, was construed as multifaceted; as an attitude
with affective, conative and cognitive dimensions.
