Heritage tourism capitalizes on locales of historical interest to attract visitors to sites where they can discover, explore, and enjoy the attractions. According to the United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), heritage
tourism accounts for 37% of global tourism and is expected to grow continuously. Revenues generated from heritage tourism improve the financial resources of the sites thus enabling better management and preservation of the site, and providing educational opportunities as well as contributing to local and national economies. This unique form of tourism provides an opportunity for cultural, historical, and human interactions; heritage tourism cultivates domestic and international understanding among tourists from different countries and cultures.
