Wat Chaiyathit is a very old temple dating back to the early Ayutthaya period, a fact attested to by the discovery, under a section of ground between the ordination and prayer halls, of a mass of bricks, each pierced by eight holes. This design of brick was popular at that time. The ordination hall is quite small with a ceiling comprised of individual planks of wood, so it looks much more uneven than the perfectly level ceilings in more recently constructed temples. Transverse beams support some sections of the structure.
