2.2. Treatments
In the preliminary study, banana fruits were fumigated in
different concentration (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.8, 1.0 and 1.2 mM) of NaHS
solution at 20 C for 24 h before stored at 7 C for 14 d. According
to the CI index, the optimal concentration of aqueous NaHS solution
(0.5 mM) was selected for this experiment. The first group of
fingers was exposed to H2S gas in a 15 L sealed container where
NaHS solution prepared with distilled water (pH 7.1) was added
to the bottom. Another group used distilled water instead of NaHS
solution as the control. After fumigated at 20 C for 24 h, fingers
were stored in unsealed polyethylene bags at 7 C for 0, 7 and
14 days then immersed in 0.1% ethephon for 1 min before stored
at 20 C for 6 d. Each
