Fast content startup in PSSe is enabled by enabling the pipelining of the session setup RTSP requests. A typical streaming session, consisting of an audio stream and a video stream, will usually require at least three consecutive RTSP requests, namely, SETUP (Audio), SETUP (Video), and PLAY. According to RTSP, those requests have to be performed with three round trips as the reply to the first request indicates the session ID that is used by the subsequent requests. With the introduction of the “3gpppipelined” header field, PSSe SETUP and PLAY requests may be pipelined and still be recognized as belonging to a single session. The session startup may then be achieved in a single round trip.
