CD24 participates in the regulation of
cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions and has a role in cell proliferation,
invasion, and metastasis [26]. CD24-positive HCC cells have been shown
to be critical for the maintenance, self-renewal, differentiation and metastasis
of this cancer [27]. Ectopic expression of CD24 in carcinoma cells
promotes cell spreading through activation of integrins [28], downregulation
of CD24 expression inhibited carcinoma cell growth and reduced
clonogenicity through a change in the actin cytoskeleton [29].
