The system implemented may be used to control any graphical
interface via eye movements detected using EOG. When developing
this system, the problems associated with Eye Movements Codification
have been taken into account and new codification
techniques and detection algorithms have been incorporated to resolve
these issues. The results obtained demonstrate the system’s
reliability in detecting eye movements and produce an error of less
than 2.
The system developed incorporates EOG-signal-acquisition
hardware and an EOG-processing module that implements an expert
eye movement identification and codification system and generates
the corresponding control and validation signals in the HCI.
The system has been widely tested in word processing, entertainment
(video games), speak and spell, support and eye-movement
interpretation applications, and has even been used to
control an electric wheelchair.
