Christmas.
Oh, Christmas...
That special time of the year when spoiled kids bitch and complain about not getting the presents they wanted. That time of the year when people murder one another to save a quick buck. That time when the cold weather stings like a son of a bitch even though it's not snowing. The time when people stress out over the money that they don't have. The time when Christmas ads pop up everywhere you turn. The time when everyone. goes. nuts.
But.. it's also the time when families actually get together. The time when they open presents, laugh, smile, eat large dinners, watch stupid Christmas movies, snuggle by the fire and for once... become something that actually feels real.
Yes, Christmas..
That special time of the year when I'm forced to be reminded that I have nobody.
........
I lay in my bedroom as I sleep soundly, my messy, (h/l) (h/c) hair falling gently into my (pale/tan/dark) face. The small room was well-lit as the sun seeped through my bedroom window and onto every inch of surface that it could find. The snow that fell from outside my window was almost more than 6 feet high. All the trees that surrounded my house were coated in beautiful, glistening white snow that looked like frosting on a cake. My eyes lazily blinked open as I was welcomed by the bright sun that shined directly in my (e/c) orbs.
"Ugghhh.." I whined, my childish voice showing my slight irritation form the bright light. I shut my eyes more tightly this time, flipping over so that my back faced the window. I curled into a tiny ball with my knees pressed closely against my chest. I let out a soft sigh and very slowly, I began drifting back to sleep. I was almost there when...
"EEK~!" I screeched in shock as I was thrown over an unknown shoulder, immediately waking up due to the sudden actions. My eyes shot open faster than lightning from a Pikachu, and I started forcefully kicking at my father's chest as he spun me around in circles.
However, my kicks didn't seem to effect him as he eagerly shouted, "IT'S CHRISTMASSS!" in one of the most hyperactive tones I have probably ever heard in my short 10 years of life.
My sudden shock immediately disappeared the second I heard that happy-go-lucky voice of his, a high-pitched gasp of realization and happiness escaping my lips as I heard the word Christmas. My (e/c) eyes widened like saucers, the angry expression on my face immediately fading as I burst into fits of giggles.
"PUT ME DOWN, YOU OLD LARD~!" I said with laughter, my high-pitched, child-like voice now loud and wide awake as could be.
He laughed in response as he stopped spinning me around, but he kept my small form hung over his shoulder.
"WHAT'S THE MAGIC WORD?" He laughed.
"UH... BANANA PEANUT BUTTER!" I responded with a giggle, a large smile plastered on my (pale/tan/dark) face.
"CORRECT!" He yelled happily, my laughter following in response.
He, very quickly, spun around for about 3 more seconds before throwing me onto my bed quickly, but also gently enough so that it didn't actually hurt me.
"WUH-HEY~!" I yelled teasingly, my giggles never seeming to subside as I tossed myself up off of the bed and ran into the living room to chase after the old hag that I called father.
I flung open the door the living room, and that's when my feet froze directly in my place.
In the center of the living room, I saw a tree. A tree so large that it almost touched the roof. On it hung beautiful red and green lights. They shined brightly, giving the tree a positive glow as they reflected onto the brightly colored ornaments that covered the trees branches. Underneath lied dozens of presents, stacked head to toe in an orderly fashion underneath the brightly decorated tree.
My (e/c) eyes widened at the sight, a very faint gasp escaping from my lips before I eagerly ran towards the tree in complete and utter excitement.
I started giggling uncontrolably, bouncing up and down eagerly as I laughed like the uncontrollable, hyperactive child that I was.
"DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DADDY, DAAADDDDDYYYYY! WHICH ONE'S ARE MINE? WHICH ONE'S ARE MIINEEEEEE?" I cheered, my voice uncontrollably loud and peppy. Cute little giggles ran through my high pitched squeals of excitement.
"Right here," I heard my father's voice answer softly from behind me. I immediantly flipped around to be face to face with my father, the largest smile in the world was still painted across my face. He was on his knees so that we could be at about the same height, That's when I looked him in the eyes. His brown eyes looked soft and sincere, showing a different form of happiness than the one I was just expressing. They showed soft, gentle, warm, and comforting signs of happiness. Happiness and love.
My large grin slowly faded, and my young face went blank for only a tad bit more than a second. Then, a light giggle escaped me lips. It was cute, gentle and somewhat short as I smiled back up at father. My smile more gentle and kind than it was before.
He chuckled softly at me and ruffled my (h/l) (h/c) hair. I responded to this by shutting my eyes lightly and letting out another soft giggle, my (e/c) eyes then looking up into his once more.
He gave me another soft half-smile before reaching behind his back and pulling out a small orange box with a red ribbon wrapped around it.
My eyes widended with curiousity as he held it out for me to grab.
"Be very careful with it, (y/n)." He spoke quietly. I slowly reached my small, (s/c) hands out to grab the box gently.
Very slowly, I sat down on the ground in criss-cross position, placing the small present in my lap as I undid the red ribbion that wrapped around it.
Then, anticipation and curiousity running through my veins, I slowly took off the orange lid to reveal a small, oval-shaped object that was carefully wrapped in newspaper.
I looked up at my father and raised my eyebrow slightly in confusion. His grin was a bit wider this time as he jolted his eyes down at the object as if to tell me to open it.
I slowly looked back down at the newspaper-coated object and gently picked it up in each of my hands. Gently, I placed it in my left hand as I carefully unwrapped it with my right... and that's when I noticed exactly what this was.
An egg. A small, orange egg with yellow circles painted across it.
My lips parted slightly as my (e/c) eyes widened the size of saucers.
I quickly looked back up to my father to meet his gaze, a large smile painted across his face.
"Do you like it?" He asked softly, his smile not seeming to fade.
My smile grew wider as I quickly threw my arms around his neck and hugged him tightly, the small egg still clasped inside of my hand protectively.
"I love it," I whispered softly as I smiled, my (e/c) eyes shutting gently has I held onto my father.
