Relationship between rainfall anomalies and Atlantic and Pacific SSTAs
Figure 5 shows the observed monthly SSTs in the Atlantic and Pacific regions and
the monthly observed rainfall at station Cultuurtuin. The monthly rainfall shows a
seasonal cycle, which is caused by the meridional movement of the Inter-tropical
Convergence Zone (ITCZ) [4]. Most of the other rainfall stations also show a similar
seasonal rainfall pattern. The monthly rainfall is the highest in May-June and the lowest
in October-September.
