Where possible, protective factors need to be
fostered, which may be through structural and
other interventions such as promoting gender
equality, reducing poverty, building Albertans’
connections and social networks, and promoting
positive parenting. It is about identifying the factors
that place people at risk of perpetrating and/
or experiencing family violence, and working to
eliminate those risk factors; while at the same
time building protective factors and resilience and
creating the social conditions for people to build
and sustain healthy relationships.
