6) Easy Bake Oven
As mentioned earlier, Hasbro Inc’s Easy Bake Oven’s advertisement constructs gender roles by displaying young girls participating in feminine domestic practises. This advertisement becomes a key example of how gender roles become assimilated into culture, and assist children in understanding “feminine” gender construction. The advertisement is clearly geared towards young girls, as the company uses bright youthful colours, fun pop music and young happy (girl) actors to market a toy highly associated with traditional feminine practises.
Notice how there are no boys or men featured anywhere within the commercial?
