Extensive research is going on to mimic the self-cleaning
property of lotus leaf to the fabric using TiO2 nano particles
[18]. Huang et al. [19] successfully demonstrated a procedure to
obtain TiO2 coated multi functional super-hydrophobic cotton
fabric. As the TiO2 possess UV absorption capability, the
designed fabric displays UV shielding property. Nano flower
like super-hydrophobic TiO2 were coated over the cotton fabric
using hydrothermal method by Li et al. [20]. These fabrics
possess self-cleaning and oil–water separation capability that
intensifies the importance of the multifunctional fabrics. Silica
and alumina nanoparticles were also coated as super-hydrophobic
additive over cotton fabric and studied their influence
towards self-cleaning property [21–23]. It is to be noted that
many literatures dealt about the preparation of colourless/white super-hydrophobic fabric for various applications. Coloured
fabrics also find potential applications as pleasing coloured
dress materials and in hospital garments like bed spreads,
curtains, scrubs, etc. In this perspective, the coloured fabrics
with non-wettable character are being fabricated by choosing
chromia and iron oxide nano particles as colouring agents.
Moreover, these particles are also widely used as pigments in
paints owing to their exceptional properties.
