4.3. Attitudes towards and application of the ‘‘learning andgrowth’’ BSC dimension
A major focus of the study concerned an attempt to gauge the extent to which ‘‘learning and growth’’
performance measures are being applied in the hotel sector. To facilitate this, some time was spent in each interview
familiarising interviewees with the five elements thatKaplan and Norton (1996a) see as underpinning the
‘‘learning and growth’’ BSC dimension: employee capabilities, employee lifestyle and well-being, tracking of employee
tools, motivation of employees and employee goal alignment.
