In practice, quantitative trait locus (QTL) pyramiding to combine loci for grain number and
plant height in the same genetic background generated lines that exhibited both beneficial traits;
these results demonstrated a strategy for tailor-made crop improvement (Ashikari et al., 2005).
Another possible breeding strategy was able to increase grain length, decreasing grain width,
reducing chalkiness of the endosperm, and, at the same time, not affect yield (Tan et al., 2000).
Furthermore, a feasible strategy to enhance the efficiency in molecular breeding is simulation
breeding (Wang et al., 2007).
