Introduction
The main function of a seismic network is to provide high-quality seismic data with high sensitivity to be used for earthquake monitoring, source studies, and earth structure research. Conventionally, the seismic sites are selected according to field observation and few decision criteria of selected sites. The planning of a new seismic network depends on many factors, among them, the availability of the site, accessibility, the level of ambient noise, topography, population, geological structures, etc. In fact, selecting sites for seismic stations is a complex process. This complexity requires a professional site-selection procedure of the simultaneous evaluation of many criteria. For this purpose, the geographic information system (GIS) in conjunction with the multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) is used.
