Although weathering characteristics are in part controlled by lithology, data clearly show that the point load index decreases as
the relative age of the alluvial fans increases. This trend exists for
all tested samples from both toe and apex of the alluvial fans. For example, the strength of aggregates, in all rock samples, is higher on the apex of young fan compared to the apex of relict and old ones (Fig. 11). Nevertheless, the decrease in the strength of aggregates
from relict to young fans is not same in various rock types (Table 3).
