My sister and I were always very close. No surprise then that we decided to go on holiday together. We planned an amazing trip to Mexico, and now it is finally happening.
When we stepped off the plane, my sister asked: “Why does it have to be the hottest day in Mexico just when we arrive?” I just laughed and said, “It is probably just because we come from a freezing London that it feels this hot.”
The ride to our hotel seemed to take forever in a bus with no air conditioning. I was sure the driver slowed down every time my sister asked, “How long will it take before we get there?,” so I finally convinced her just to sit back and look at the landscape through the window. “We shouldn’t book with this travel agent again” she said with a sigh.
“Did you see that guy with the enormous hat?” I asked in amazement, trying to keep her busy thinking about something other than the heat. “Do you think I am blind?” she asked. “I have seen many of them already. I would also be wearing a hat like that in this heat. Only thing is mine should have a built in air conditioner!”
I could not help to laugh out loud at this comment. “Who would fit an air conditioner to a sombrero?” I asked after I could calm my laugh down to a chuckle.
“Don’t they have those hats with the little fans on in London during summer?” she asked. “Well if they can do that, I am sure someone will think of an air conditioned hat in the near future”.
“Welcome to The Chilly and Pepper Inn,” the driver announced with a big smile from the driver’s seat, suddenly very friendly knowing that his gratuity awaits him. “We do service with a smile” he said, and I was surprised to see that his smile grew even wider.
“Do you know what time it is?” my sister asked in a stressed tone. “We have to be ready for dinner in 10 minutes or we will miss it! Thank you very much for your kindness!”
I paid him the fee and gave him a little extra thinking that he must be really bored with his job driving up and down this road a few times every day.
We collected the room key from reception which all went smooth and without incident. My sister wanted to go to the ladies room and agreed to meet me in our room a few doors down the passage.
She arrived in the room and I was waiting for it. “This is our room?” she exclaimed. “But we asked for a room with a view. This has no view other than some old cluttered up houses down the street! I am going back to reception to fix this” she said and left the room before I could stop her.
”What did I get myself into?” I wondered as I locked the door to follow her in an attempt to prevent her from getting deported. That would be a great start to our holiday!
