2. The Mixed Forest
The dominant vegetation in the Linnebjer nature reserve is mixed deciduous forest. Part of the reserve was used
as a special area for detailed investigations (Figure 1 and Figure 2). A full description of the vegetation during
the study period is given in Andersson (1970b). In brief, the forest has a number of layers: tree layer > 15 m,
upper shrub layer 2 - 15 m, lower shrub layer < 2 m and field and bottom layers. The tree layer is dominated by
Quercus robur and Tilia cordata and the upper shrub layer by Corylus avellana. The field layer shows seasonal
changes, with Anemone nemorosa dominating in spring and Oxalis acetosella in summer. The bottom layer is
weakly developed.
