The “characteristic” sensory profile of honeybush can be described
as a combination of “sweet-associated”, “floral”, “fruity”, “woody” and
“plant-like” aromas with a sweet taste and a slightly astringent mouth-
feel. The six Cyclopia species analyzed showed three distinct groups
based ontheir sensory attributes,indicatingthat it would thusbepossi-
ble to blend Cyclopia species of the same group without altering their
typical flavor. It should, however, be kept in mind that even within a
group there were subtle differences between species
