Thus according to Kohlberg it is not a moral judgment when a girl says to her companion, she’s so sensitive about her looks that if you tell her to fix her hair differently and to wear different clothes she’ll never want to be around you again so just don’t talk about such things when you’re with her. this is only a prudential judgment, for it is not universal nor is it based on impersonal or ideal ground. in contrast, it is a moral judgment when a girl says, they should outlaw capital punishment because no one has a right to take another person’s life under any circumstances. This judgment is universal applies in all situations, and is founded on ideal convictions. Kohlberg’s defining the nature of moral judgment in such a manner makes it clear that he was not a cultural relativist. He would apply his definition of moral judgments equally to all societies under all conditions.
