2. THEORETICAL BACKGROUNDS: ERROR ANALYSIS
2.1. Definition of errors
According to Corder (1981, p. 152), errors are “the result of some failure of performance” and differentiated errors from mistakes in the way that errors are in nature being “errors of competence” which occur in the continuum of the learning process. They are a noticeable deviation from the adult grammar of a native speaker and the result of learners’ transitional competence. On the other hand, mistakes are “errors of performance” or performance errors that are either a random guess or a “slip,” in that they are a failure to utilize a known system correctly. Mistakes are neither systematic and nor significant to the process of language learning.
