Plots C (Peanut plot) took a ground-hugging trailing plant,Perennial Peanut (Arachis pintoi Krapov. & W.C. Greg., Fabaceae)(Fig. 4). Broadleaf herbs have been advocated as alternatives toSedums for better passive cooling (Blanusa et al., 2013). Theevergreen perennial groundcover herb, native to tropical SouthAmerica, is characterized by vigorous-fast growth and tolerance ofhigh temperature and strong insolation. It has been used success-fully as a groundcover or living mulch crop for tropical orchards(Radovich et al., 2009), and as a tropical forage legume withnitrogen-fixing capability (Kerridge and Hardy, 1994). The speciessuits the harsh tropical rooftop microclimate (Chung and Chan,2001). The common C3 photosynthesis mode is adopted.
