Several researchers and assessment instrument developers have attempted to subdivide fundamental movements into a series of identifiable sequential stages (McClenaghan & Gallahue, 1978; Haubenstricker & Seefeldt, 1986, Roberton & Halverson 1984; Gallahue & Ozmun, 1995). For the purposes of our model, we will view the entire fundamental movement phase as having three separate but often overlapping stages, namely, the initial, elementary, and mature stages.
